Fasting.
Like most people, I've been in a contemplative move as the world welcomed 2019 a few days ago.
Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of the holidays.
Ironically enough, I do love the New Year.
A new year represents hope, goals, vision and a fresh start.
I purchased my 2019 planner a month before. I begin transferring all of my 2019 dates into the physical and digital calendars. I was doing all of my nerdy decluttering, purging and cleaning. I felt really good about it too. It felt very "adult" of me :)
Then, I saw a post online about a two-day detox/fast.
Y'all, I instantly felt the urge to do it.
Now, the fact that the urge and resolute decision was made that quickly meant that it came straight from the Lord. Why?
I. DON'T. FAST.
Hi, I'm Danielle, the unruly Christian here who hates to fast.
I don't ever see the amazing benefits others claim I'll get from it.
Yes, the Bible says that some things only come by prayer and fasting.
For some reason, those things don't happen for me.
I am hangry the majority of the time (yes, HANGRY is a word).
I earnestly pray, do devotions, turn on worship music and nothing changes.
No difference.
No change.
I don't get the point.
Yet, I still did the fast.
If nothing else, it would serve as a detox from all the crap I ate to cope during the holiday frenzy.
No one forced me to do it, but I felt like the Lord was nudging me to.
Honestly, within the time period of the fast, life went to shit.
I got a flat tire on I-495, got in an argument with someone which ended in me hanging up abruptly, dealt with difficulties with work and lost the card for the gym I just signed up for.
"Victory belongs to Jesus. Victory belongs to him."
Okay. -___-
Nonetheless, I stuck it out for two days and successfully completed my mission of not submitting to the flesh.
Just for clarification's sake - during my fast, I drank 100% cold-pressed juices, water and unsweetened ginger turmeric tea. So, I still consumed nutrients to keep me alive.
Furthermore, 7-11 sells the cold-pressed juices I drank.
I know.
You're thinking that's gross.
Danielle, why would you buy cold-pressed juice from 7-11?
Um...because Whole Foods is expensive, I don't want to use juicer and it was the real deal.
If you'd like to experience the health benefits of 100% juice without the high price point, I HIGHLY recommend 7-11's cold-pressed juice. Every single flavor I had was AMAZING. I got a few of the green juices, the orange juice and the red juice. You'd have to try it to believe me, but it was so bomb.
Anyway, I know you're not supposed to publicize when you do a fast, but seriously... I freakin' hate fasting. Nothing miraculous happens and I've never experienced insurmountable blessings (that I know of ) solely because I fasted.
I can't be the only Christian who feels this way.
If I am, whatever.
It's my truth.
Signed,
Danielle
