Rest
Today is the first day of 2019.
The year ended just as quietly as it began.
I drove an hour to my dad's house to spend time with my nephew.
King, if you ever read this as a big boy, I turned down a Kirk Franklin concert for snuggle time with you. Never question my
We read, played with Thomas (his current favorite toy) and shared several slivers of black cake (for my West-Indian friends, the non-alcoholic version). I gave him a bath, got him ready for bed and he fussed until he fell asleep. When it's time for bed, he typically "turns up" even more.
He's tired, but he doesn't want to go to bed. I think he might feel like he'll miss out on some fun.
Truth be told, he really is the life of the party. He's not missing anything when he takes a rest.
In fact, when he doesn't take a nap, he becomes borderline unbearable to be around.
I think the same applies to me.
I've accepted that in this new year, I vow to make rest a priority.
I will rest more, and honor the needs my physical and mental facilities require.
Rest doesn't just mean sleep.
Yes, naps are a part of the equation.
Margin and a few vacations are included in the package deal.
If you don't rest, you'll burn yourself out.
If you look in the mirror and see the reflection of a burned-out soul, make some adjustments that prioritize yourself. You'll be better for it.
I know I will be.
Happy New Year :)
Signed,
Danielle
P.S. I'm almost 100% sure this blog will continue to document my thoughts, discoveries and experiences I care to share.
